MANILA -- Kim Chiu will not face action for her video that had gone viral showing her dancing outside her car, which some netizens wrongly assumed to have been taken in the middle of EDSA.
A statement from Star Magic posted on Instagram shared that Chiu had met with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Jojo Garcia this Thursday via Zoom.
It said that Chiu explained to Garcia that the video was taken at a "parking lot adjacent to a road," and that the MMDA will take no further action over the incident aside from a reminder on traffic rules.
The full statement can be read below:
"This morning, Kim Chiu had a brief online meeting with MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia following her viral 'dance video.'
"Kim initiated the meeting where she explained that the controversial video was not taken along EDSA but in a parking lot adjacent to a road. Kim also clarified that the car is not moving when the 5-seconder video was taken.
"MMDA accepted Kim’s explanation and although SHE DID NOT COMMIT ANY TRAFFIC VIOLATION with her act, GM Garcia still reminder her to always adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations."
The MMDA earlier said that it was investigating the video of Chiu dancing after many online claimed that it was taken in the middle of EDSA traffic while the actress' car was slowly moving.
It was pointed out that the potentially dangerous act could lead to charges such as reckless driving and jaywalking.
The video showed Chiu dancing outside her car to her song "Bawal Lumabas," which she has been using to raise funds to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
