MANILA – Winning the best actor award for the movie “Kuya Wes” is a truly humbling experience for Ogie Alcasid.

The singer-composer was recognized at the 35th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila Sunday.

In his acceptance speech, Alcasid thanked his co-producers, director and manager for trusting him to do the project.

“Maraming maraming salamat. I am so happy. I am so grateful and truly humbled,” he said. “Akalain niyong naging best actor ako.”

He likewise thanked his family and his wife Regine Velasquez “for believing in me more than I believe in myself.”

A Cinemalaya 2018 entry, "Kuya Wes" tells the story of a man who works at a remittance center and falls in love with a regular customer.

In keeping with the movie’s theme, Alcasid dedicated his accolade “to all the simple people out there” who are just like his character.

“The film is about a simple person who is ignored, who is invisible to many yet he just wants to love and to be loved. And so I want to dedicate this to all the simple people out there. Keep living, keep loving, keep doing what you want to do in life. This is for you,” he said.
