Gerald Anderson and Rayver Cruz
MANILA, Philippines -- Although it was his stint in a TV reality show that launched his showbiz career, actor Gerald Anderson has to thank fellow Kapamilya star Rayver Cruz for convincing him to give the entertainment industry a try.
Appearing on "Gandang Gabi Vice," the two actors, who have become good buddies, said their friendship started in 2006 -- before Anderson even tried out for the first teen edition of "Pinoy Big Brother" that year.
"Nakilala ko siya sa basketball, kay Joross (Gamboa). Tapos, 'yun. Ang dami ko ding nakilala dahil sa basketball," Anderson recalled, adding that Cruz told him at the time that he should try out for showbiz.
"Sabi ko, 'Bro, gwapings ka bakit hindi ka mag-artista?' Sinabi ko talaga sa kanya 'yon," Cruz told host Vice Ganda. "Tignan mo dahil sa akin nag-artista siya."
Anderson then joined "Pinoy Big Brother" where he finished second to grand winner Kim Chiu -- and the rest is history.
Since 2006, Cruz said he and Anderson have become close friends and even share the same room whenever they have shows abroad.
Recently, the two actor attended the Cannes Film Festival in France for the world premiere of their movie, "On the Job," which also stars Piolo Pascual.
