MANILA -- It's a song centered on one rule: bawal lumabas.
And ever since it came out, Kim Chiu's fun, catchy swipe at her haters and critics has become a massive hit with Filipinos, so much that in entered the MYX Daily Top 10 this Thursday.
Its debut on the local chart traces, apparently, from its high number of streams online -- it garnered more than 10 million views across Facebook and YouTube within a day of it release.
This led to it being put up on all digital platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Apple Music, and Deezer, garnering strong enough numbers that it made it to the 10th spot of the daily MYX rankings.
Chiu wrote "Bawal Lumabas" after experiencing being bullied online over an incoherent thought she had while pleading for ABS-CBN to be allowed to return on air. She described it as "one of the lowest points" of her life, before turning it into a positive.
Her song has spawned a viral dance and music covers, and she even made a merchandise line based on it to help fight COVID-19.
