MANILA - ABS-CBN's modern retelling of "Pangako Sa 'Yo" opened strong Monday on primetime, earning more than double the national viewership of its rival program.

The pilot episode about the origins of Amor Powers garnered a nationwide rating of 34%, according to producer Star Creatives, citing data from Kantar Media. Its competing show on GMA-7, "Let the Love Begin," only got 15%.

Focusing on Amor's humble past, the series premiere saw her first interactions with Eduardo (Ian Veneracion), a political scion whom she has long admired, and Claudia (Angelica Panganiban), her would-be nemesis and fierce rival.

In the original, Amor and Claudia's respective children, Yna and Angelo, fall in love but are anguished to find out that might be half-siblings. Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla portray the lead roles in this remake.

Airing weeknights after "Nathaniel," "Pangako Sa 'Yo" is under the direction of Olivia Lamasan, Rory B. Quintos and Dado Lumibao. It is the latest production of Star Creatives, the same team behind "The Legal Wife" and the just-concluded "Forevermore."
