Enzo Almario walked into the audition room with a cheery, carefree attitude that matched perfectly his luminous look: a rainbow jacket paired with an earpiece inspired by the colors worn by Catriona Gray during the last Miss Universe pageant.
He had a certain amount of confidence in him, enough to make him carry a camera with him and record his audition for a vlog.
He explained that he wanted to inspire people, especially the young members of the LGBT community through his "authenticity."
For a little background, Almario is a former child singer. He was a member of a popular singing group back in 2006, but his struggles to identify his gender and his problems over his own attitude made him quit the spotlight.
He returned to TV with an appearance on "Tawag ng Tanghalan," where he revealed that he now identifies himself as queer.
Carrying that newfound assuredness to his "Idol Philippines" audition, he sang Dua Lipa's "New Rules."
"You know I enjoyed it so much siguro kasi maganda din iyong pasok mo," praised Regine Velasquez. "Right away alam ko kung ano ka so pati iyong kanta mo tuloy, nag-reflect iyong pagka-open mo."
He ultimately got all 4 yeses, meaning that he'll be moving on to the next round of the competition.
Hosted by Billy Crawford, "Idol Philippines" airs Saturdays after "Home Sweetie Home" and Sundays after "Wansapanataym."
