MANILA – Julia Barretto has patched things up with her father, actor Dennis Padilla.
The rift between father and daughter started when Barretto, whose real name is Julia Frances Baldivia (Padilla's real surname), wanted to legally drop her last name.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News and other reporters on Sunday, Barretto said she has ironed things out with her father even before they were spotted working out together at a gym last month.
“Actually 'yung gym na 'yun super surprise. I knew that he goes to that gym and I go to that gym pero iba-iba 'yung schedules namin so never kami nagkakatagpo. Nagulat ako, ‘Papa!’ It just happened. But we talked. We’ve been talking even before meeting. It wasn’t like we patched things up there. We patched things up even before that incident,” she clarified.
Barretto said she is glad that things are now starting to be okay again between them little by little.
“As a daughter, it makes me really happy because at the end of the day, he’s still my dad. No matter what, gusto ko sa huli okay kami, walang hard feelings,” she said.
Asked about the reaction of her mother Marjorie Barretto, she said: “My mom is happy naman wherever I’m happy, my siblings are happy. That’s why I appreciate my mom so much kasi pinapabayaan niya kami kung saan kami okay. Guidance lang.”
Meanwhile, Barretto said she has yet to plan something for her father as Father’s Day is coming up.
“Let’s see, baka sa gym ulit,” she said laughing. “What does my daddy want? Siguro at this point, all he wants is for everybody to be okay, more than any material thing. I’m just glad this year is going so well so far.”
