MANILA - For the first time in the history of "Pilipinas Got Talent," (PGT) a dance act took home the crown during the grand finals of the show's fifth season Sunday.
Power Duo, composed of real-life couple Anjanette and Gervin, was named the grand winner, garnering an average of 100 percent of votes from viewers and judges.
For their grand finals performance, Power Duo performed an interpretive dance to the OPM ballad "Ikaw Lamang," receiving a standing ovation from all four judges.
"Sa mundong punong puno ng napakaraming taong nananakit, pinaniwala niyo ulit ako sa pag-ibig. That was not just dance, that was love. And tonight, love wins," comedian Vice Ganda told the couple.
"I'm completely amazed at the way you did your performance tonight. Ang ganda-ganda, wala akong masabi," Freddie M. Garcia added.
For his part, Robin Padilla said, "When love talks, everybody listens. Love conquers all, sabi nga nila. Power Duo, you are the Helen of Troy of 'Pilipinas Got Talent.' Panalo na kayo."
Power Duo caught the attention of both the judges and viewers as early as the auditions, when they received the "Golden Buzzer" for their performance.
In the semifinals, they blew away the competition with their awe-inspiring and moving routine set to "Wag Ka Nang Umiyak," the theme song of the hit primetime series "Ang Probinsyano." Power Duo received more than half of the public votes.
Power Duo bested firedancer Pyra and magician Ody Sto. Domingo, who were also crowd favorites.
They are the only dance act to be named grand winner, with singers dominating the first four seasons of "PGT."
