MANILA -- As early as now, veteran actress Susan Roces is asking the public not to compare actor Coco Martin with her husband, the late Fernando Poe Jr., saying it would be unfair.

On Tuesday, ABS-CBN announced that Martin will be the lead star of its upcoming series "Ang Probinsiyano," which is based on the 1997 Fernando Poe Jr. movie.

"I think it's not fair for people to expect and that is not only for Coco but any actor portraying a role that has been played by a previous actor. It's unfair to compare because he is not portraying FPJ; he is portraying the character in the story. So hindi niya kailangang gayahin ang kilos ni FPJ," said Roces, who will be playing the role of Martin's grandmother in the upcoming soap.

"It's his own interpretation. We should not expect him to mimic everything that the former actor portrayed and that goes for all the remakes, for all the projects inspired by a previous movie or teleserye," she stressed.

For his part, Martin said that he feels blessed to be given the chance to play a role done by Poe and vowed to do his best to give justice to it.
