MANILA -- The cast of the much-anticipated sequel to "Heneral Luna" centering on Gregorio del Pilar, the country's youngest general during the Philippine-American war, has been revealed.
"Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral" stars Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino in the title role with Mon Confiado, Empress Schuck, Gwen Zamora, Bret Jackson, Arron Villaflor, Jason Abalos, Epy Quizon, Ronnie Lazaro, and Yan Yuzon.
It will also feature Alvin Anson, Carlo Cruz, Hans Eckstein, Jojit Lorenzo, Jason Dewey, Arpee Bautista, Roeder Camañag, Karl Medina, Stephanie Sol, Gio Gahol, and Ethan Salvador.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News in a previous interview, Avelino said that it has always been his dream to portray a historical figure like Del Pillar, best known for leading the Battle of Tirad Pass.
"Importante ito para sa atin na malaman 'yung history natin para mabago kung ano ang mga kamalian natin," he explained.
Like "Heneral Luna," "Goyo" will be directed and written by Jerrold Tarrog.
A release date was not given, but producer EA Rocha said back in 2015 that production will take about two to three years as his team wants to maintain the quality "Heneral Luna" had.
"Heneral Luna" is the most successful historical film in the country's box-office history, grossing more than P200 million.
It was the Philippines' official entry for foreign language film in the Academy Awards in 2016, but failed to receive a nod.
A teaser for "Goyo" was shown ahead of screenings of the romantic comedy "I'm Drunk, I Love You" back in February
