MANILA -- Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas on Tuesday confirmed that she is running for an elected position in 2016, saying her idol, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, has inspired her to enter the political arena.

In an interview during the launch of her latest endorsement, delas Alas said she has long wanted to run for public office, although she is still undecided whether to target a local or national post.

"Kaya lang nung nag-usap kami ni Ate Vi, sabi niya if hindi pa ako ready by heart, huwag na muna. Ngayon, ready na ako by heart so game na," the "Tanging Ina" star said.

Asked why she wants to run, delas Alas said in jest: "Idol ko si Ate Vi. Anything na ginagawa ni Ate Vi ginagawa ko din. Wala nga lang akong asawang senador but later on malay mo, hindi ba?"

Turning serious, she added: "Marami akong gustong gawin sa Pilipinas -- 'yung napu-frustrate ako pero wala akong magawa. Pero kapag nasa (public) office ako, baka may magawa ako. Ngayon iniisip ko pa kung Congress o mayor, alin doon sa dalawa, hindi pa ako sure."

The actress, who also hails from Batangas, said she's ready to face criticisms, adding that Santos will be there to guide her.

"Nandiyan naman si Ate Vi para tulungan ako at mag-advise sa akin. At wala naman sigurong (masisira sa akin). Kahit sirain nila ako ng sirain, wala na. Alam naman nila na open book ako sa buhay, sa love life ko, sa buhay pamilya ko," delas Alas said.

Asked of her priority projects if she will be given a chance to serve, delas Alas replied: "Kung sa bayan namin siguro magpo-focus ako kung paano i-improve 'yung bayan. Sa economy, gusto kong gumawa ng batas sa mga kababaihan, about women and children kasi 'yun ang naging problema ko, battered wife. Gusto ko maging second Boracay ang Calatagan," she said.

The actress stressed that her decision to join politics does not mean that she will soon quit showbiz.

"No naman, half-half lang," said delas Alas, who reported that she has already registered in her hometown in Calatagan, Batangas.

The actress also said her children supports her decision to enter politics.

"Alam naman nila. Kakausapin ko sila heart to heart kasi si Sancho nung sinabi ko parang nagulat siya. Sabi niya, 'Mama bakit nasa Calatagan ka?' Sabi ko, 'Nag-rehistro ako.' 'Bakit?' 'Hindi ba magra-run ako?' 'Ah talaga, tuloy ba yon?' 'Yun ang sagot niya. Alam mo naman 'yung mga anak ko, sabi nila, 'Anything that will make you happy.'"
