Filipino-American contestant Francisco Martin took to the stage in the latest episode of "American Idol" with a heartfelt tribute to his mother and an ode to the king of the jungle.

Singing the theme from "Tarzan," “You’ll Be In My Heart,” Martin dedicated his performance to his mother, a frontliner nurse, for the show’s Mother Day’s celebration Sunday night.

The performance impressed judge Katy Perry. “You have grown even more and this set of Mother’s Day songs is really separating the pack… and you are making it difficult for all these other contestants because that performance was so soulful and beautiful and real. It was heartfelt,” Perry said.

Judge Lionel Richie was also impressed with Martin’s confidence. “It’s all about your delivery now,” he said.

The Fil-Am singer from the San Francisco Bay Area has come a long way from his initial shyness during his audition.

Martin is already in the top 7. The show’s voters will determine who will be the final contestants with the chance to win the title of “American Idol” in the show’s grand finale next Sunday (Monday in Manila).

Begin with the suspenseful reveal of the Top 5, the upcoming show will be the first-ever “American Idol” remote competition finale.

Celebrity musical guests and former "American Idol" champions and contestants like Phillip Phillips and Katherine McPhee will be joining in through remote performances.

An all-star special performance of “We Are the World” to be led by Lionel Richie will close the show.
