MANILA - The Taguig Regional Trial Court pleaded not guilty for model Deniece Cornejo on Tuesday to the charge of serious illegal detention of actor Vhong Navarro.

According to Navarro's legal counsel, Atty. Alma Mallonga, the court had to plead on Cornejo's behalf when she refused to enter a plea to the non-bailable offense, which is in connection with the mauling of the ABS-CBN talent last January 22.

Aside from Cornejo's arraignment, the Taguig RTC also held the pre-trial for the grave coercion and serious illegal detention charges. The hearing finished at around 5:20 p.m.

Judge Paz Esperanza Cortes has yet to release a commitment order regarding the detention facility of Cornejo, who surrendered Monday afternoon and was detained temporarily at the Anti-Transnational Crime Unit of the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

For now, Cornejo will remain detained at the Philippine National Police headquarters where she shares a cell with 14 female inmates.

Her co-accused, Cedric Lee and Simeon Raz, arrived past noon at the Taguig RTC for the hearing of their petition for bail for serious illegal detention.

Navarro was also at the Taguig RTC, along with Mallonga, but only thanked his supporters when asked for comment on Lee's group.

Aside from Cornejo, Lee and Raz, arrest warrants for serious illegal detention were issued against Ferdinand Guerrero and Jed Fernandez -- who remain at large. -- Reports from Henry Atuelan, Edwin Sevidal, DZMM
