MANILA - Viva Films' summer offering "This Time" starring James Reid and Nadine Lustre, earned P15 million on its first day of release, the company announced on Thursday.
The figure puts it at par with the first day gross of 2014's "Diary ng Panget," which was also topbilled by Reid and Lustre. That film went on to earn more than P120 million by the end of its regular run.
The newest "JaDine" film may have a difficult time reaching that number, however, considering that it faces stiff competition from Star Cinema's "Just the 3 of Us" and Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War."
The former, the first film to feature the tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Jennylyn Mercado, also opened on Wednesday with a P16 million gross, while the superhero flick shattered box office records in the country last weekend.

Directed by Nuel Naval, "This Time" tells the story of a pair of lovestruck teens Coby (Reid) and Ava (Lustre) who only see each other during summer vacations.
The film, which was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board, marks Lustre and Reid's first project following the conclusion of the hit primetime series "On the Wings of Love."
