MANILA – Television host Kris Aquino experienced first-hand how it is to ride the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Pasig River ferry system.
MMDA chariman Francis Tolentino proposed the reopening of the ferry to help ease the traffic given the numerous construction projects on major Metro Manila roads.
In an interview with DZMM’s Dennis Datu on Monday, Aquino said she is delighted that the ferry system has attracted many commuters.
“Sinabi ko nga kay Chairman na it takes vision to conceptualize, to feel, that this is possible. And now that this is happening, kasi may one week pa sila para masubukan nila, and later on, sana magamit natin ito especially for the students kasi ang laking tulong nito,” she said.
The ferry system, which formally re-opened on April 28 after being suspended for about three years, has attracted at least 5,000 commuters, with the Guadalupe, Makati to Escolta, Manila route as the most popular.
Last week, Tolentino announced that the free ferry trips will be extended for another week starting on Monday, May 5.
According to Aquino, she also wants to help if ever the MMDA launches a clean-up drive for the Pasig River.
“Congratulations sayo Chariman. Kami nga pinag-uusapan namin na kailangan magtulong-tulong kami. Sabi ko sana may clean-up project ka, I’ll be so willing to join you for that,” she said.
Aquino was with Kapamilya stars Carmina Villarroel and Erich Gonzales when she took the ferry on Monday.
