MANILA – When the Cannes Film Festival organizers announced that "Ma' Rosa" is among those competing for the Palme d'Or this year, not much was known about the Brillante Mendoza movie.

The Cannes website didn't even have a synopsis of the film.

Last Saturday, the much-awaited trailer of "Ma' Rosa" was finally released online.

The two-minute clip shows Rosa, played by Jaclyn Jose, being arrested in her small store in what appears to be a buy-bust operation.

“Ma’ Rosa” will compete with 38 other films from different countries, including "The Unknown Girl" from previous Palme d'Or winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne and "The Last Face," directed by Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn.

The movie also features Jose's daughter Andi Eigenmann, Julio Diaz, who recently got hospitalized, Baron Geisler and Mark Anthony Fernandez, among others.
