MANILA - "That's not my fault."
These were the words of Daniel Matsunaga when asked if he had something to do with the breakup of Erich Gonzales and her non-showbiz boyfriend of four years, amid speculation that the two Kapamilya stars are now together.
"We had a show together, but I think it's not because of me," the Brazilian-Japanese model was quoted as saying by PEP.ph in a report published Thursday.
Matsunaga was referring to ABS-CBN's "Two Wives," which concluded in March. In the primetime series, Matsunaga and Gonzales' characters ended up getting married.
"I'm sorry about that," he said of the separation, "but 'yun, it's not because of me... Before, they had their lives, and I think they just learn with each other. And, that's it. The four years that they had, that's it."
The news of Gonzales' separation, which was confirmed by TV host Kris Aquino late last month, fueled speculation the actress is romantically involved with Matsunaga. (See timeline here.)
Prior to the confirmation, the two had been posting romantic photos of them on Instagram, including one showing Gonzales, Matsunaga and his mother together.
Just this week, the rumored couple continued to update their followers online, this time with photos of them apparently while on vacation. In one caption, Gonzales referred to Matsunaga as "my love."
