MANILA, Philippines - Critically acclaimed filmmaker Brillante Mendoza's star continued to shine when 2 of his films, namely "Lola" and "Kinatay," dominated the 33rd Gawad Urian held at the University of the Philippines Cine Adarna Thursday evening.
“Kinatay” was named as the Best Film, which allowed Mendoza to bag the Best Director Award. Albert Michael Idioma also won Best Sound for "Kinatay."
Mendoza has been named Best Director for the past 3 years. His films also won the Best Film award in 2007 for “Tirador” and in 2008 for “Serbis”.
His daughter, Angelica Mendoza, accepted the award on his behalf.
Meanwhile, Linda Casimiro won Best Screenplay for Mendoza's "Lola," which was also cited as Best Production Design.
The Best Actress plums went to Rustica Carpio and Anita Linda, who both starred in "Lola." Mendoza also won as Best Production Design for “Lola.”
Raymond Red’s "Himpapawid,"received 3 awards, Best Supporting Actor for Soliman Cruz; Best Supporting Actress for Marissa Sue Prado and Best Cinematography for Raymond Red.
Lou Veloso was given the Best Actor award for “Colorum.”
Best Editing was given to Orlean Tan, Ralph Crisostomo and Miko Araneta for the movie “Engkwentro” while Best Music was awarded to Francis de Veyra for “The Arrival.”
The Best Short Film was awarded to “To Siomai Love.”
Natatanging Gawad Urian was given to veteran actress and producer Armida Siguion Reyna.
