MANILA, Philippines – The Liberal Party (LP) on Wednesday distanced itself from the controversial photo of Sarah Geronimo.

Lawyer Edwin Lacierda, spokesman of LP standard-bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, maintained that the political party has “no knowledge or participation of Sarah Geronimo wearing yellow.”

“Having said that however, we welcome the serendipitous endorsement of Ms. Sarah Geronimo!” he said in a statement sent to ABS-CBN News.

The photo shows the pop star princess flashing the “Laban” sign and wearing a yellow shirt, both of which are associated with the Aquino camp.

Geronimo is an endorser of Nacionalista Party (NP) vice presidential bet Loren Legarda. Legarda, who maintained that Geronimo remains her strong supporter, blamed Aquino for the controversy, an allegation denied by Lacierda.

“We are not surprised that Loren Legarda would accuse the LP,” the lawyer said. “As with all our celebrities who have endorsed Sen. Aquino for free, libre din ang endorsement niya (Geronimo)! Salamat ng marami kay Bb. Sarah Geronimo!”

Ricky Reyes endorses Villar

Meanwhile, if Aquino has Danton Remoto of Ang Ladlad as a supporter, NP’s standard-bearer Sen. Manny Villar found an ally in celebrity hairdresser Ricky Reyes.

"Ngayon na ilaladlad ko na, si Villar!" declared Reyes when asked to reveal his presidential candidate.

Reyes, a television host who owns his own beauty salon, lauded Villar for being a businessman like himself.

In a chance interview, Villar thanked Reyes for his support. The presidential candidate added that Reyes should be recognized for helping his fellow Filipinos.
