MANILA -- They didn't even have to use one of the infinity stones to rewrite the record books, after Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Infinity War" earned the biggest opening day in the Philippines' movie-going history.

The superhero blockbuster, starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr, among many, took in P141.6 million in its first full day, which Disney said is the most a movie has ever made in its debut here in the country.

It also shattered the single-day box office record, previously held by "Beauty and the Beast." The live adaptation of the beloved classic earned P100.3 million back in March 18 last year.

"Avengers: Infinity War," which had its premiere in the Philippines on Wednesday, has won good reviews from movie critics, and is due out in North America this Friday.
