MANILA — Claudine Barretto took to Instagram to praise Kapamilya stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, labeling the two as the successor to her popular tandem with late actor Rico Yan.
Barretto spoke out after she learned that Bernardo and Padilla's newest movie, "Can't Help Falling in Love," made more than P100 million in just four days.
Saying she watched "Barcelona: A Love Untold" — Bernardo and Padilla's previous film — Barretto wrote: "I really felt that 'KathNiel' does the same movie as my movies before [like] 'Milan.' Now, 'Can't Help Falling in Love,' reminds me of 'Got To Believe.' To me, KathNiel is the new Rico-Claudine."
Her post also came a little less than a month following the 15th death anniversary of Yan, who died of cardiac arrest on March 29, 2002. She and Yan were considered one of the top love teams in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar, "Can't Help Falling in Love" is currently showing in 400 cinemas. It tells the stories of two strangers who accidentally signed a marriage contract.
