Broadway Diva Lea Salonga
MANILA –Taping for the second season of the talent competition “The Voice Kids” is about to start -- with even younger contestants.
This was revealed by award-winning singer and judge Lea Salonga in an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday.
According to the Broadway actress, they have lowered the age range of those who can join this season.
“Hindi na eight to 14. It’s now seven to 13. We are going to have younger children auditioning for us this weekend. I have no idea what’s going to happen. I am a little afraid but very very excited,” she said.
“This coming weekend, we start taping again. I think it starts airing June pa, matagal pa,” she added.
Salonga said she is looking forward to discover new talents who dream of becoming performers even at an early age.
Just like in its first season, Salonga said she and the other coaches will “have to employ a much softer touch with children because there are real feelings and their feelings are on the surface.”
“Hindi sila 'yung parang matanda na they can hide or they can pretend that they are being gracious. Here, they are children. There’s going to be overflowing of tears every time somebody has to say goodbye. And sometimes, one of the people who stays, they end up crying for the people who leave,” she said.
Although difficult, Salonga said: “We just have to be very understanding and very encouraging but also very sympathetic and empathetic with the young ones.”
The first season of “The Voice Kids” saw Lyca Gairanod from the team of Sarah Geronimo as its first grand winner. Her runners-up were Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo and Darlene Vibares.
