“American Idol” released some never-before-aired performances of its top 20 contestants on Sunday (Monday in Manila) as part of its “This Is Me” episode.
Among the new videos unveiled were those Filipino-American singer Francisco Martin during his audition and his solo performance during the Hollywood Week.
In a never-before-seen clip, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie apparently asked Martin to sing another song during his audition after he sang Maggie Rogers’ “Alaska.”
Obviously delighted with his talent, Bryan said: “Can we hear more from him? I just want to listen.”
Martin obliged and went on to play the Kings of Leon hit “Use Somebody.”
The judges enjoyed his second song that he even got Bryan to sing with him in the chorus.
Meanwhile, during the solo performances round of the Hollywood Week, Martin wowed with an original composition called “Lover.”
According to Martin, one thing he learned about himself that surprised him the most during his “American Idol” journey is overcoming his nerves and anxiety throughout this show.
He also mentioned the comment that stuck by him the most.
“[It] was probably when Katy, Luke and Lionel told me to trust in them, to believe in them, and to believe in myself. I think after that, it really changed my perspective of the whole entire competition. It sparked this confidence in me,” he said.
At the beginning of the episode, host Ryan Seacrest announced that the contestants’ journey will take a historic turn next week because “this competition will continue as the top 20 compete for your vote with epic performances.”
Just like the other shows in the US, “American Idol” has halted its production and the whole world battles the coronavirus pandemic.
