MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN hit television show “Mara Clara” has been nominated at the 2011 Banff World Media Awards in Canada.
“Mara Clara” is one of the nominees in the soap operas and telenovelas category, according to the Banff website.
It is competing against television programs from South Korea (Bread, Love and Dreams), United Kingdom (Coronation Street) and the United States (Days of Our Lives, Eva Luna and The Queen of the South).
The Banff World Media Awards, also known as the Rockies, is an internationally recognized awards program celebrating the very best in international television and digital media production, the website said.
Category winners will be awarded over a series of 3 ceremonies during the Banff World Media Festival, namely the Fiction Rockies, where the soap operas and telenovelas category is included, the Non-Fiction Rockies and the Interactive Rockies.
The Fiction Rockies ceremony, which will recognize the very best in scripted TV programming from around the world, will take place on June 12 at the AOL Canada Theater.
It will be hosted by “Entertainment Tonight Canada” Hollywood correspondent Matte Babel.
“Mara Clara” is a remake of the 1992 ABS-CBN hit TV series of the same title. The remake is being topbilled by Kathryn Bernardo, who plays Mara, and Julia Montes, who portrays Clara.
The original TV series featured Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes.
