MANILA, Philippines – The director of “Kimmy Dora” has belied rumors that she entered a rehabilitation facility purportedly to treat her drinking problem.

In a phone interview with “The Buzz,” Joyce Bernal cleared that she is not an alcoholic.

She said: “Umiinom naman talaga ako pero hindi ako alcoholic kasi functional naman po ako. Dalawa ‘yong pelikula ko. Halos tatlo pa ‘yong TV shows ko. Meron pa ako sa tatlong networks… kung nasa rehab ako, hindi tuloy ‘yong shows ko.”

She disclosed that she is even swamped with work for the whole week. When “The Buzz” called her, Bernal said she was in Pangasinan for another project.

She also branded as a big lie the allegations that her alleged uncontrollable drinking was the reason for the delay of an Aga Muhlach-Regine Velasquez movie.

Bernal maintained that all her movie and television projects have never been delayed due to her drinking.

“Hindi ko alam kung kanino nanggagaling yan. Kahit tanunging ninyo po si Aga Muhlach at si Regine kung ako pa ‘yong ganyan. O tanungin ninyo po si Robin Padilla at Toni Gonzaga kung tuloy tuloy po ‘yong shooting ko. Ka-trabaho ko rin po ‘yong mga yan. At si Eugene Domingo,” she said.

Domingo was the lead star of “Kimmy Dora.”

Bernal added: “Kung nasa rehab po ako, aaminin ko naman. At kung kakailanganin ko ng tulong aaminin ko naman…. Hindi ako alcoholic at hindi ako nasa rehab.”

Muhlach and Domingo, 2 of Bernal’s close friends in show business, defended the film and television director.

Domingo said: “Si Direk Joyce ay masipag. Alam naman natin she works really hard and plays very hard. Kapag party, party talaga…. Workaholic si Bb. Joyce Bernal, yun ‘yon.”

Muhlach, for his part, could not contain his laughter when told about the rumors.

“Napaka-imposible naman noon… I think she’s very misunderstood. Una, wala naman siyang bisyo talaga. Her drinking is just part of her unwinding. It’s not that she's drinking every night,” he said.

He also clarified that his film project with Velasquez has been delayed not because of Bernal’s supposed drinking problem but because of conflict of schedules.
