MANILA — “That set the bar.”
These were the words of “World of Dance” judge Ne-Yo as he locked in his score for Filipino dance crew VPeepz after their April 14 performance.
The score: 100 — the first from an individual judge in the third season of the hit dance competition, according to Hollywood Life.
VPeepz, which is competing in the Junior Team division, sported the traditional barong in blue and red as they danced to “&Burn” by Billie Eilish.
By the end of the number, all three judges were on their feet.
“Without a flip, without a trick, without anything… Nobody risked their life, and you got all three of us out of our seats,” Ne-Yo told the Filipinos, who are aged 11 to 16.
Jennifer Lopez likened them to an “army,” saying, “everything was so clever and perfect.”
Derek Hough, meanwhile, praised the “clarity and thoughtfulness” of the choreography, pointing out that the spacing and music “allowed us to appreciate those hard moments, the intricate moments with the footwork.”
“You didn’t leave any beat, any moment un-turned. It was so beautiful. You guys nailed it!” he added.
With both Lopez and Hough scoring the group 98, in addition to Ne-Yo’s perfect 100, VPeepz got a cumulative score of 98.7. The highest in their division in that episode, the score secured the hip-hop crew one of three slots in the Division Final.
There are three other divisions, each with their final round: Junior, Upper, and Upper Team. The respective winning act of each division — a total of four — will then face off in the World Final.
