MANILA, Philippines – Re-electionist Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto is not bowing out of the race.
During her campaign rally in Tuy, Batangas Monday night, Santos dispelled rumors that she is withdrawing from the gubernatorial race in Batangas.
Santos maintained that she has no reason to back out now. The actress-turned-politician branded the speculations as black propaganda being perpetrated by her opponents.
“Hindi ko nga alam kung saan nakukuha ‘yan. It will never happen, 3 parties pinagtutulungan ako,” said Santos, who moved to Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s Liberal Party from the administration’s Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
Santos also disputed allegations that she was always out of the provincial capitol during her first term as governor.
She defended herself by saying she was often out visiting local officials.
She also reminded her detractors that she went on leave last year when she did a Star Cinema movie, which required her to travel to the United States where she filmed some scenes.
Santos’ running mate, Jose Antonio “Mark” Leviste II, also defended the governor from her critics. He called on them to stop the mudslinging. -Report from Ernie Manio, ABS-CBN News
