MANILA - As Star Cinema searches for the new actress to play Darna after Liza Soberano's tearful announcement that she will no longer play the Pinay superhero, among the stars who have been suggested by fans to take on the role is Jessy Mendiola.

Graphic artist Chovelasarts even drew Mendiola as the iconic komiks character following the announcement that Soberano had been forced to back out due to a finger injury.

The drawing was shared on Instagram, catching the attention of Mendiola herself, who personally commented on it to say that she appreciates the effort. "Ang galing mo, promise," she wrote.

While she likes the artwork, Mendiola honestly admitted that she does not have a chance of getting the role.

“Zero [chances],” she said laughing in an interview with ABS-CBN News during the premiere night of her film “Stranded.” “May Darna bang blonde?”

Turning serious, Mendiola believes that the actress who should portray the Filipina superhero should be a morena beauty.

“I personally think dapat morena 'yung Darna kasi nakakalimutan na siya ng Generation Z. May ibang bata na kapag tinatanong if kilala nila si Darna, sino daw si Darna. Feeling ko dapat if Pinay superheroine, dapat talaga morena this time,” she said.

As such, Mendiola said it would be nice to see Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach donning the iconic costume.
