MANILA, Philippines - TV host and talent manager Boy Abunda defended her ward Gretchen Barretto for walking out on a press conference on Thursday.
Barretto left the press conference after she became fed up with some celebrity reporters who asked for her reaction on the TV show face-off with her sister Claudine Barretto on Saturday.
Barretto's "Maaalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)" episode will be aired on same time slot as the pilot episode of her sister's first drama anthology series with GMA-7.
Barretto got pissed after reporters asked her whether it was true that she and Claudine are not on speaking terms again, and that their mother was not happy about the same 8:30 p.m. time slot for their shows on Saturday.
In a statement issued by Abunda over "SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon" on Thursday, he explained that an actress or a manager does a project without knowing when it will be aired.
Before agreeing to do a TV project, they do not ask when it will be aired. Neither would they know what a rival station would air against the show.
She has nothing to do with this.”
For a good script
Abunda said that at first, La Greta turned down the project due to conflict of schedule, but she eventually changed her mind when Abunda urged her to do it because of the episode's good script.
"When I read the synopsis of the MMK episode, I called her, and this is rare mga kaibigan dahil hindi naman po talaga ako tumatawag, I don’t. Kapag sinabi niyang hindi, I respect the decision ‘di ba? Pero sabi ko, ‘Gretch, I don’t think you should let this pass. This is too good for you to pass. Basahin mo ang storya, I asked for the script and then you make your decision," he said.
Abunda added that Gretchen will air her side on the walk-out on SNN on Friday. The whole interview will be shown on "The Buzz" on Sunday, April 10.
