MANILA — After flying in a live-action flick and on stage, the well-loved Pinoy comics character Zsazsa Zaturnnah is gearing up for her animated film debut, its producer Rocketsheep Studio announced on Monday.
As in the comics series from Carlo Vergara, "Zsazsa Zaturnnah vs The Amazonistas of Planet X" follows the story of a gay beautician, Ada, who turns into a superheroine upon swallowing a melon-sized stone — a parody of the komiks icon Darna.
In a minute-long teaser, Ada is shown transforming into Zsazsa, before she helps save a man from a wave of zombies.
The teaser, according to Rocketsheep Studio, was supposed to debut at Hong Kong event in March, where the team was due to meet with a prospective international production partner. However, due to the coronavirus crisis, those plans were delayed.
Rocketsheep Studio clarified that development of the film is in its early stages. Currently, its artists are doing storyboard work, the group said.
The latest iteration of Zsazsa Zaturnnah comes 14 years after the material was first adapted for the big screen by Regal Films, and for a stage musical by Tanghalang Pilipino.
