MANILA, Philippines – Fans of Manny Pacquiao in the US will again get the chance to sing along with their boxing idol as he plans to hold a series of mini-concerts in Las Vegas after fighting Shane Mosley on May 7.
“After ng fight may mga concert eh... may kumuha ulit sa atin (After the fight there will be concerts... they wanted us to sing),” the pound-for-pound champion revealed.
To prepare for the events, Pacquiao snuck into his tight schedule a one-hour rehearsal with former UK’s Got Talent contestant Madonna Decena and his MP Band at a music studio in Metro Manila.
The rehearsal took place on Friday night, a day before the Filipino champion flew to the US.
Pacquiao is scheduled to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Mosley in Las Vegas.
“Sa Las Vegas din gaganapin. May kumukuha sa amin na booking, nag-regroup lang kami (The concerts will be in Las Vegas. Somebody’s calling us for booking, so we regrouped),” he said.
Pacquiao, who is also the congressional representative of the lone district of Sarangani province, usually holds post-fight concerts despite going through bruising fights against his ring opponents.
Pacquiao staged mini-concerts after his bouts against Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto in 2009 and Ghana’s Johua Clottey in 2010.
His concert in Lake Tahoe, Nevada after the Antonio Margarito fight was also a hit.
He said that it’s been a long time since he last practiced singing, which is one of his favorite recreational activities.
“Masyado kaming nakatutok sa training ko, kaya relax muna ang katawan ko sa [pamamagitan ng] pagkanta (We’re so focus with my training so I decided to relax by singing),” Pacquiao said.
He considers his mini-concerts as a pursuit to reward himself for the hardships he has to go through while training and boxing.
“’Pag nakakarinig ako ng music, nawawala ang pagod ko sa katawan. Kahit 24-hours akong nagtrabaho, nawawala ang pagod ko (Whenever I hear music, all the stress and fatigue in my body go away. That’s even after I worked 24 hours straight),” said Pacquiao. – With a report from Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com
