MANILA – Kris Aquino has stepped up to help the local government of Puerto Galera, which has welcomed her with open arms while the entire Luzon is placed on lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Instagram, Aquino shared that she gave the LGU 25 sacks of rice, which the town’s chief executive allocated for their tricycle drivers.
“I am posting this hindi para magpa bida -- kasi konti lang ito, dapat 100 sacks of rice pero malayo ako & hindi maka-withdraw ng mas malaki because more than 1 hour away 'yung mga bangko where I have accounts kaya umaasa muna sa ATM,” she wrote in the caption of a screenshot of her conversation with the Puerto Galera mayor.
According to Aquino, this is the perfect time for those who have been financially blessed to help those who have lost their source of income because of the lockdown.
“Magdamayan tayo ngayon dahil laban nating lahat ang COVID-19. Hindi tama na ang mga kapwa Pinoy ay magutom sa panahon ng lockdown dahil 'yung daily wage earners hindi makapagtrabaho,” she said.
The Department of Health on Tuesday morning said there are now 501 COVID-19 cases in the country, while the total number of fatalities is still 33.
