MANILA - Melissa Mendez has issued a public apology to businessman Rey Pamaran over an incident last week that led to the actress being offloaded from a Cebu Pacific flight from Manila to Pagadian.

Mendez released her apology to Pamaran on her Instagram page Tuesday.

It read, unedited: "In light of the recent incident that involved me and Mr. Rey Pamaran, I would just like to simply apologize for my untoward actions and move on from this. This incident has caused a lot of pain and trouble to me and my family, as well as the other party involved.

"I am owning up to my mistake. No matter what the reason might be, I had no right to physically hurt Mr. Pamaran. Again, my deepest apologies to Mr. Pamaran and everyone else who have been affected by this."

A day prior, Pamaran on his social media accounts posted an open letter to Mendez, saying he will not be pressing legal charges against the actress, "on the condition that you set the records straight using the truth and nothing else but the whole truth through a genuine public apology."

Noting that his legal team has already started drafting a complaint, Pamaran told Mendez to "just tell the public what truth is," and that if not, he will be "pursuing all cases against you in the proper courts."

In his letter, Pamaran said he already forgave Mendez "the moment [she] was escorted out from the airplane," which was recorded on video by Pamaran's companion, pageant titlist and rugby player Andrew Wolff.

The clips posted by Wolff on Instagram went viral on the morning of March 20, prompting an emotional Mendez to go on a television interview narrating the incident.

The altercation, according to accounts of the parties involved, stemmed from Mendez initially refusing to leave a window seat reserved for Pamaran as she wanted to "take pictures of the clouds."

During the flight, Mendez approached Pamaran and hit him because he allegedly wouldn't stop making offensive remarks about the actress. Pamaran and Wolff, who claimed that Mendez was drunk, pointed out that the actress was issued warnings by the flight staff before she was offloaded.
