MANILA -- Actress Angel Locsin no longer can play the Filipina superhero Darna in Star Cinema's movie adaptation of the Mars Ravelo-created character.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News reporter MJ Felipe, Locsin explained that she had to back out again because of her spine problem.
According to the actress, who already played the superhero before, it was her training coach who reported to ABS-CBN that she was again feeling pain in her back.
On Monday, Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos announced that Locsin will no longer play Darna in the upcoming movie due to health reasons.
The film's director Erik Matti stressed that he and Star Cinema are just after the welfare of Locsin.
The announcement was made more than a year after Locsin backed out from doing the project after her spine was damaged.
Locsin admitted that for a time, she just kept quiet as she tried to assess about what the people will say.
Sinubukan po namin talaga pero (sabi nga) the spirit is very willing but the flesh is weak," she said, adding that she has accepted the fact the she can no longer play Darna.
Despite the setback, she assured her fans that she will also be doing a lot of projects with ABS-CBN.
"Sa mga nagtataka kung ano ang nangyayari, kasi five years in the making baka iniisip nila na tamad lang ako or may itinatago kami, Nagte-training kasi ako for Darna pero dahil hindi na matutuloy 'yung project na 'yon para sa akin, may mga ibinigay ang ABS-CBN na very exciting na bagong projects," Locsin said.
