MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED)  – Retired actress Nanette Medved is back in the limelight but this time as a charity worker, selling water to help build classrooms.

Medved rose to stardom in the early 1990s when she was chosen to play the comic superhero Darna. She was also a leading lady of the late Fernando Poe Jr. in movies such as “Isang Bala Ka Lang II.”

Medved, who is now married to a businessman, is behind the “I Drink, I Give” campaign, which aims to raise funds to build classrooms in public schools.

The campaign is being supported by celebrities who studied in public schools, such as Boy Abunda, Bea Alonzo and Jericho Rosales.

“This is not about me please, this is about helping our children,” she said.

“Alam naman natin na marami pa ang nag-aaral sa ilalim ng puno,” she added, noting that there is shortage of around 66,800 classrooms (not 600,000 as we earlier reported--Editors) in the country.

She also offered the project to Dolphy, who was the first to volunteer to help her cause.

Medved also reiterated that she is not planning a showbiz comeback.

“Marami nang magagaling d’yan, hayaan na natin sila. I will just focus on helping (others),” she said.

Last year, Medved joined actress Dawn Zulueta in a charity event to help Filipino mothers.
