MANILA - One Direction star Zayn Malik has quit the two remaining legs of the boyband's Asian tour after being "signed off with stress" and is flying back home.

A spokesman for the band released a statement Friday: "Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate. The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta."

His departure comes a day after photos of him with another woman stirred trouble in his relationship with fiancee Perrie Edwards, best known as a member of the band Little Mix.

On Wednesday, Malik wrote on Twitter: "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous ***** in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x."

It also comes amid criticisms from a Filipino anti-drugs groups. Laban ng Pamiliang Pilipino (Fight of the Filipino Family) filed a petition on Wednesday to have Malik and bandmate Louis Tomlinson undergo a drug test before being allowed to perform in the country.

It was based off reports alleging that the two members of the group smoked marijuana in 2014.

The petition has since been denied by a Pasay City court citing "sufficient lack of basis."

Meanwhile, organizers of the group's concert also had to pay a cash bond amounting to P200,000 each for the two mentioned singers to the Bureau of Immigration on Thursday.

The bond will be forfeited should the two get caught using or promoting illegal drugs, Bureau of Immigration spokeswoman Elaine Tan told Agence France Presse.
