ANTIPOLO CITY — Even as she recalled fond memories in her eulogy for long-time friend Chokoleit, K Brosas kept up a strong and smiling facade.
But that crumbled as she dedicated a final song to the late comedian on Thursday.
Brosas had just engaged in a half-hour banter with fellow stand-up comedians Vice Ganda, Pokwang, and Pooh in their shared eulogy for Chokoleit when she performed “The Warrior is a Child” by herself.
In a heartbreaking parallel to the lyrics of the Gary Valenciano classic, Brosas, who had been cracking jokes up until the first line of the song, was soon overwhelmed with emotions and cried for the first time that night.
Chokoleit, or Jonathan Garcia in real life, died last Saturday after a heart attack. A wake at a memorial chapel in Antipolo City, where he was based, was held until Thursday.
On Friday, his remains were brought to his hometown in Davao, where the cremation will be held.
Brosas, who is currently seen in ABS-CBN’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” traces her showbiz beginnings in 1993 alongside Chokoleit.
They were peers at sing-along and comedy bars and achieved career breakthroughs a couple of years apart as they transitioned to television.
