MANILA – Fans of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal’s team up have been abuzz since it was announced Tuesday that their reunion film is finally going to materialize this year.
On Thursday, director Dan Villegas talked to ABS-CBN News to discuss the concept of the project and how it actually came about.
“Nag-start 'yun after ‘Exes Baggage.’ Napanood kasi ni Marvin. Nag-message siya ng congratulations and maganda. Puwede daw ba gumawa ng pelikula with me and Jolens. Sabi ko, ‘Oo naman pare. Generation ko 'yung love team niyo,’” Villegas began.
“Eventually, after noon, napanood nila 'yung ‘Hintayan ng Langit’ na sinulat ni Gege (Juan Miguel Severo). Tapos sabi ni Marvin, puwedeng daw bang siya 'yung sumulat kasi sobrang nagustuhan niya 'yung screenplay. Sabi ko game,” he added.
Since Villegas and Severo want a mature love story for Agustin and Magdangal, they thought of bringing Bibeth Orteza into the team.
“Kasi gusto namin ng very mature love story, kasi nga di ba 'yung age nila, sabi naming dalawa, parehas kaming hindi pa kasal so we need another voice. Kaya pumasok si madam Bibeth. Naisip ko dapat kasama namin siya kasi iba 'yung input ng tao na nanggaling na doon,” he said.
Asked if he feels pressured since the film’s mere announcement already generated so much buzz, Villegas said: “Sobra. Kumbaga 'yung love team nila classic na 'yun. Even until now, even the young ones know about the famous line na ‘Kaibigan mo lang ako.’ Lahat ng tao alam iyon. So kinakabahan ako.”
Villegas said none of them expected the overwhelming response from netizens even though details about the film are still thin on the ground.
Without giving too much of its storyline, Villegas teased that the film will be about the “wreckage of a relationship.”
He clarified, however, that it’s not going to be sequel of the two’s famous movie "Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang?"
Nonetheless, Villegas is optimistic Agustin and Magdangal’s natural chemistry won’t be a problem even though it’s been a while since they last worked together.
“Iba talaga 'yung chemistry. Isa sa questions nila was makikita pa ba natin onscreen 'yung chemistry na minahal ng tao? Ang sagot ko, kahit i-force natin tanggalin 'yun, you can’t. Nakaupo lang sila, nag-uusap lang sila may chemistry na. They finish each other’s sentences,” he said.
As of writing, Villegas said their team is still on the scriptwriting process but it is their goal to begin filming by July or August.
