MANILA - Julia Barretto considers her high-profile debut last Tuesday as the "best night of my life," as it not only gathered her friends and loved ones but also paved the way for the reconciliation of the feuding sides of her family.
"I was so happy. I'm so happy! Because the gown (a Michael Cinco creation) was what I really wanted to wear," Julia told ABS-CBN News' Marie Lozano Friday on the sidelines of the filming of a new TV commercial for shampoo brand Palmolive, which she endorses.
She added: "My family, they were all there. All my friends were there for the candles, for the roses. Every thing was perfect. Actually, that was the best night of my life."
Among the highlights of the debut was the meeting of Julia and her aunt Claudine.
Shortly after the "Mirabella" star made her grand entrance, she met Claudine and her grandparents Miguel and Inday, all of whom had been feuding with Julia's mother, Marjorie and another Barretto sibling, Gretchen, since 2013.
In one of the most photographed moments of the night, Julia and Claudine hugged each other as celebrity guests looked on. Miguel was even seen capturing the moment on camera.
"I didn't notice!" Julia said, referring to guests watching the emotional moment. "I'm just so happy that everything's okay now, it's getting there. I was so happy to see everybody there."
Asked for her reaction to Marjorie calling her the "initiator of peace" among their family, Julia said: "If nobody's going to do it, then who's going to do it, right? Might as well do something about it."
Julia has said one of her goals in holding the grand celebration was to gather the feuding members of her family, and hopefully initiate the reconciliation.
According to Marjorie, it was the first time in three years that she and her children personally met her parents and Claudine.
Shortly before the debut, an overjoyed Claudine spoke highly of Julia. Speaking with reporters, she expressed confidence that Julia will follow in her foot steps, referring to the string of ratings and box-office success of her acting projects in the past two decades.
"Pressure!" said Julia of Claudine proclaiming her as her successor. "It's really flattering, especially coming from her. If hindi ko siya tita, syempre 'di ba, [I would be such] a fan! I'm such a fan girl when it comes to her work. I think it's really flattering na it's coming from her."
Julia also echoed Claudine's statement that they should work together.
"That's my dream! I always wanted to work with her! It's also my dream to work with her. Actually, I've been saying that kahit noong ni-lo-launch palang kami. I've always been open about it," she said.
Claudine and long-time collaborator Wenn Deramas recently teased a new project together, titled "Pinilit Kong Limutin Ka," while Julia is currently filming the romance-drama "Para sa Hopeless Romantic" under Star Cinema and Viva Films.
