MANILA, Philippines -- An episode of "Maalaala Mo Kaya" featuring Julia Montes as a 15-year-old prostitute drew strong nationwide viewership last Saturday.
According to the latest TV ratings data from multi-national market research group Kantar Media, the episode drew a nationwide audience share of 34.2%, making it the No. 1 most watched program on March 9.
The rival program of "Maalaala Mo Kaya" aired on GMA-7, "Magpakailanman," meanwhile, only registered a national TV rating of 20.1% on the same day.
In the episode, Montes portrayed a young prostitute whose line of work has her doubting the good intentions of people around her.
Of the milestone portrayal, the 17-year-old actress said, “Noong una, napaisip ako kung paano ko ipo-portray kasi kakaibang role, mature talaga. Pero tinanggap ko ‘yung challenge.”
Directed by Ted Boborol, the "Maalaala Mo Kaya" offering also featured as cast members Kiko Estrada, Daisy Reyes, Mike Lloren, Giselle Sanchez, Wendy Valdez, Kazel Kinouchi, Madz Nicolas, Glenda Garcia, Joe Vargas and Alexa Ilacad.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, more than AGB Nielsen's 1,980 homes that are only based in urban areas. Kantar Media's panel represents 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while AGB Nielsen reportedly represents only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.
