MANILA – Marjorie Barretto knew that her estranged sister Claudine will attend the 18th birthday of her daughter Julia at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel Tuesday night.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News just before the party started, Marjorie said it will be the first time in three years that almost all of them will be together again, including her estranged sister Claudine.
A long-running feud has divided the Barretto clan for years, with Marjorie siding with sister Gretchen and their parents Miguel and Inday backing their youngest daughter.
“It’s been three years ago. It’s been long. It is special,” Marjorie said on Tuesday.
Marjorie said she appreciates the gesture of her youngest sister.
“[We haven’t seen each other yet], I don’t how to feel about it. But it’s fine. I knew from the start that she was going to attend. It’s nice of her to attend, to grant Julia’s wish. It’s really nice of her,” she said.
According to Marjorie, Julia was the one who wanted the entire family to be present at her debut.
Julia had said in an interview that one of her goals in holding her 18th birthday party was to pave the way for a reconciliation.
“It’s a nice feeling. Puwede na kami mag-family picture,” Marjorie said. “As long as my daughter is at peace, I am happy. Kasi siyempre she’s entering a new chapter in her life so it’s important for her to step into the new chapter with no emotional baggage, with no problems. Fresh. Good karma.”
Asked how she feels now that her daughter is a lady, Marjorie said: “I am nervous a bit. Siyempre you don’t want your children to move on to greater challenges in life. But I think I have equipped her enough.”
