MANILA – Gretchen Barretto will be missing the debut of her niece, actress Julia Barretto, which will happen on Tuesday.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of the PMPC Star Awards for Movies on Sunday, Gretchen said she will be flying to London early Monday morning to be with her daughter, Dominique.

“Aalis ako tomorrow morning, first flight. Nasa airport na ako at five in the morning. I have to celebrate with my daughter and my friends also. Meron kaming rule sa bahay na kapag may birthday, parang it’s a month-long celebration,” she said.

Gretchen celebrated her 45th birthday last March 6.

Asked if she is okay to miss Julia’s special day, Gretchen simply said: “I don’t want to talk about it. I demand respect. Tonight is my night. The birthday of Julia will be her night. Let’s give it to her and let’s give it to me.”

Just recently, Ricky Lo of the Philippine Star reported that there is supposedly a rift between Gretchen and Julia’s mom, Marjorie.

It was allegedly because of Gretchen’s open support for teen star Liza Soberano, the current leading lady of Enrique Gil, who was also once paired to Julia in “Mirabella.”

Lo said Gretchen’s expression of support for Soberano has allegedly “hurt” Marjorie, who supposedly considers the “Forevermore” actress her daughter’s “rival.”

Despite this, Gretchen said in a separate interview that she only wishes the best for Julia.

“[I wish her] Long life, good career, matatag na puso at kapal ng mukha na kailangan natin sa industriyang ito. Iyan ang meron ako na gusto kong ipamana sa kanya. Hindi lang para kay Julia kundi para sa lahat ng kabataan ngayon, kailangan talaga natin maging matatag,” she said.

Last week, Julia said she invited her aunts Gretchen and Claudine to her debut in the hopes that it might pave the way for their reconciliation.

Over the past decade, Gretchen, Marjorie and Claudine -- who are the youngest siblings of seven, in order -- were estranged at different times due to conflicts within their family.

"I want to believe that that's the purpose of my debut. I can't force anything to happen. Parang hindi naman tama na magpilit ng tao. It's my special day. I want everybody to be there. If that's the reason kung bakit magkakaayos ang lahat, then good," she said.

Julia, on Sunday, confirmed that Claudine will be attending her 18th birthday celebration.
