MANILA – Throughout Sarah Geronimo's career, the singer’s mother and father have been the constant figures behind her, with some even branding them as stage parents.
Geronimo, however, doesn’t consider this a disadvantage.
“Teamwork kasi kami. Si Daddy, siya 'yung talagang singer sa pamilya namin so siya ang nagtuturo sa akin ng pagkanta. Si Mama naman, more on sa damit, song choice, showmanship. Medyo [strict talaga sila] pero gusto ko rin po talaga,” she told ABS-CBN News in an interview.
In fact, Geronimo admitted that she would raise her future children just like how her parents guided her.
“Baka may kaunting [pagka-stage parent din ako] kasi ganun ako pinalaki ng mga magulang ko pero dapat aware ako na hindi ko didiktahan masyado 'yung anak ko. Kailangan makita ko kung ano 'yung personalidad niya talaga, kung ano talaga ang passion niya,” she said.
While she doesn’t know anything about parenthood yet, Geronimo stressed that it is important for every parent to respect their children’s personal choices.
“Siyempre habang maliit 'yung mga anak natin, importante 'yung guidance ng mga magulang pero importante din na pakinggan natin yung mga anak natin, obserbahan kung ano ba talaga ang nakakapagpasaya sa kanila, kung ano ang gusto talaga nila,” she said.
Geronimo is one of the coaches of the very first teen edition of “The Voice of the Philippines.” She is also busy working on her upcoming movie “Dear Future Husband” with John Lloyd Cruz.
