Amid 'rebellion' rumors, Sarah evades interviews
MANILA - A smiling Sarah Geronimo debuted her new hairstyle Thursday during the launch of a shampoo brand's ad campaign, amid speculation that the pop star cut her hair short following a disagreement with her parents.
The 25-year-old singer has reportedly been wearing hair extensions in recent weeks, during live performances and at film shooting, to hide the drastic change. Her appearance at Thursday night's event was the first time she went public with the hairstyle.
Geronimo introduced the latest TV ad of Sunsilk, where she is seen with new co-endorsers Julia Montes and Jasmine Curtis-Smith. Notably, the TV commercial shows Geronimo with longer hair.
"I've been a Sunsilk girl for five years now and really there is no other brand that I trust with my hair, whatever the style or length -- short hair po ako ngayon," Geronimo said before the video was shown.
"And I'm very, very thankful to my Sunsilk family, 'no, that they continue to believe that I can be a source of inspiration to the millions of independent, positive, and determined Filipinas out there," she added.
While Montes and Curtis-Smith stayed on for media interviews after the press conference, Geronimo was quickly escorted to a different venue by security and event organizers. On her way out, the "You Changed My Life" star was asked by reporters why she cut her hair, but did not respond.
'Rebelling, depressed' Sarah?
In an interview on "Buzz ng Bayan" aired last Sunday, Geronimo was similarly evasive when cornered about the alleged issue between her parents and actor Matteo Guidicelli, who is rumored to be her boyfriend.
Asked to react to "sightings" of her and Guidicelli together, Geronimo said, "Puwede po huwag po natin pag-usapan? Okay lang?"
Explaining why she opts to keep her personal life private, the actress said, "Siyempre, personal po na buhay po namin iyon. 'Yun lang po. Sana naiintindihan po ng mga tao."
Geronimo appeared to be careful with her answer when asked whether she is aware of write-ups reporting she is depressed and rebelling against her parents.
"Siyempre, lahat naman may say, 'no, sa aming mg artista, mga public figures. Siyempre wala kaming control sa mga gusto nilang sabihin," she said.
Asked whether there is truth to rumors that her father, Delfin, is supposedly angry with Guidicelli, Geronimo said, "Please po, hindi po ako handang sagutin ang mga tanong."
Before her rumored romance with Guidicelli, Geronimo was linked, at different times, to Rayver Cruz and Gerald Anderson. The actors' respective relationships with Geronimo reportedly ended due to the disapproval of her parents.
