MANILA - When Rachel Gabreza first joined "Tawag ng Tanghalan," she just wanted to earn enough so that her family can put up a sari-sari store.
Fast forward to Thursday and she's back on the singing contest with a new mission: to hand her cancer-stricken little brother a lifeline.
Gabreza, a sales lady from Makati, was one of the losing semifinalists who was given another chance at the title this week.
She wowed with her cover Diana Ross's "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" and got a near-perfect total of 98.5 percent from judges and viewers, defeating the other wildcards.
"Sumakit iyong panga ko kasi hindi ako maka-react," judge Jaya told Gabreza. "Hindi ko alam kung bakit ako nakaupo lang, siguro kasi lahat ng lumalabas sa iyo ay kaabang-abang."
"I really, really was in awe of what you were showing all of us. And I think at this moment, you have nothing to worry about. Your voice will lead you to where you are supposed to go," Jaya added.
Gabreza missed out on a grand finals spot during the first semifinals of the singing contest. This, despite notching eight straight wins during her run as the defending champion, which was one of the longest streaks of the rebooted "Tawag ng Tanghalan."
Prior to her performance on Thursday, Gabreza shared that her younger brother was diagnosed with leukemia recently and will need to undergo chemotherapy.
Gabreza will return to the "It's Showtime" stage on Friday as she looks to secure her spot in the grand finals. She will face-off against other winning wildcards, Froilan Canlas, Jex de Castro, and Dominador Aviola Jr.
