MANILA -- Kris Aquino on Tuesday weighed in on the heated debate over boxer Manny Pacquiao's remarks on same-sex marriage and homosexuals.
On her morning show "Kris TV," Aquino, a Catholic, said she is in favor of civil unions.
"I've been asked by so many people because my closest friends are (gay). Ang sinasabi ko I believe in love and I also believe in monogamy," Aquino said.
However, she believes the Philippines is not yet "prepared" to accept same-sex marriage.
"We are not America. Hindi pa tayo handa sa ganoon. Pero 'yun nga, ako naman gusto kong mabigyan ng karapatan as far as inheritance is concerned, 'yung civil union. Civil union only because for partners who have been together, nag-pundar together for so many years, tapos hindi mo pwedeng iiwan sa kanya. Pwede sa will, pero legally wala ng habol and all. Eh nagmahalan naman talaga" Aquino explained.
