Angelica Panganiban has earned the moniker "Hugot Queen" because of her heartbroken onscreen characters, but nowadays the title seems to be more rooted in her real life, following a breakup she doesn't seem to mind candidly discussing.
Her latest, scathing revelations about a past relationship -- which she has repeatedly alluded to in interviews but never identified -- were detailed in a Philippine Star Supreme story in which Panganiban talks about her recent film, "Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes."
The interview covered the onscreen heartbreak she imbibed as Cindy in that film, as well as the "worst breakup she's ever had to endure" in real life.
Panganiban's answer to this prompt: "'Yung pinakamalala 'yung 'di ka brineakan tapos ikaw parang, 'Ha? Akala ko tayo?' Tapos kung gusto mo mang kausapin, 'di mo mahagilap, 'di mo makausap. So mag-de-decide ka na, 'So move on na ako, 'no? Break up na siguro 'yun?'"
The Kapamilya actress, 31, gave a similar response in a January interview on ABS-CBN's "Magandang Buhay." In that episode, she shared an experience where she was not accorded a formal breakup by an ex-boyfriend. (See the 00:59 mark in the video below.)
"Gusto ko sana pero hindi nila binibigay," she said at the time. "Hanggang text lang ba ang naipundar ko? Ang dami kong ginawa. Tapos 'yung hiwalayan hanggang text lang? I don't deserve it!"
While she was vague about her ex-boyfriend's identity in that interview, Panganiban narrowed down the list with her snappy response to Supreme saying, in jest, that the abrupt end of the relationship might have been due to bad phone signal.
Panganiban admitted to Supreme that there was a time when she would curse whenever she would pass by billboards showing her ex-boyfriend -- another hint, that he's a celebrity.
A public figure with a showbiz career spanning 25 years, Panganiban has made no secret of her past romantic relationships. Three of her past boyfriends include fellow actors Carlo Aquino, Derek Ramsay, and John Lloyd Cruz.
Lapad ng noo mo, 'day!" she was quoted as saying.
As in her recent interviews, Panganiban said she's managed to recover from the heartbreak, but if given the chance to finally get closure, she would willingly take it.
