MANILA — Ogie Alcasid and Louie Ocampo, whose iconic compositions have helped shape OPM, released an original song Friday dedicated to ABS-CBN supporters, amid challenges to the network’s franchise renewal.
On Instagram, Alcasid shared a video of him singing the tune, with Ocampo on piano, captioned: “Salamat, Kapamilya.”
“As you know we’re both songwriters, and gusto lang namin iparinig sa inyo ang isang awitin na alay po namin sa inyong mga Kapamilya,” Alcasid said.
Its lyrics, as performed by Alcasid, go:
Kay bilis lumipas ng mga taon
‘Di natin akalaing tayo’y magtatagal
Sa haba ng pagsasama, kayo’y hindi bumitaw
Tunay na Kapamilya, Luzon hanggang Mindanao
At maging sa buong mundo, basta’t may Pilipino
Ang lahat nagkakaisa, ganyan talaga ang Kapamilya
Kami’y nagpapasalamat sa inyong lahat
Hindi malilimutan ang inyong pagmamahal
ABS-CBN, whose legacy tagline is “In the Service of the Filipino,” is the pioneering broadcast network in the country. It has been operating for 65 years, and reaches Filipinos overseas via The Filipino Channel or TFC.
Aside from his involvement in ABS-CBN’s record label Star Music, Alcasid is a regular judge in the singing competition Tawag ng Tanghalan, and a mainstay of the Sunday concert variety show “ASAP Natin ‘To.”
Ocampo, like Alcasid, is a resident “hurado” in the “It’s Showtime” segment. A number of his iconic compositions have also been used in ABS-CBN teleseryes.
Alcasid and Ocampo’s collaboration is the latest in an avalanche of support for ABS-CBN from its talents, following the quo warranto petition of the Office of the Solicitor General to void the Kapamilya network’s broadcast franchise.
