'Batibot's' Kuya Ching dead at 50

MANILA, Philippines - Character actor Ching Arellano died of a heart attack on Saturday. He was 50 years old.

Arellano's cousin, Pam Alejandro, made this confirmation during a phone interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com on Monday.

"Namatay siya last Saturday due to heart attack," Alejandro said.

Arellano suffered stroke last year, added Alejandro.

The actor, born Francis Anthony A. Arellano, was one of the original cast of children's show "Batibot." He was the resident jeepney driver of the show.

After "Batibot," he appeared in various comedy films like "Pitong Gamol," “Teacher's Enemy No. 1" and "Banyo Queen."

He was also part of television series "Oki Doki Doc," "Lovers in Paris" and "Impostor."

His body lies at Floresco Funeral Homes in Barangay Concepcion in Malabon.

According to Alejandro, his remains will be cremated on Wednesday at the Eternal Gardens, Balintawak in Quezon City.
