MANILA — Marcelito Pomoy admitted he was surprised by what he described as the “leak” of his final performance in “The Champions” edition of “America’s Got Talent” (AGT).
Pomoy’s rendition of “Beauty and the Beast” had an “early release” online — the term used by the official YouTube page of “AGT” — ahead of the US airing of the episode.
Usually, official performance videos are available to view online after it’s been broadcast on television.
“Kahit kami, nagulat din. Sabi namin, ‘Bakit sobrang aga naman nitong pagkalabas nito?’ Sabi ko, ‘May leak yata.’ Wala na kaming magawa,” he told ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe on Tuesday upon arriving home in the Philippines.
In the interview, Pomoy admitted that he had been pressed for time in preparing for his grand finals bid. He also revealed that “Beauty and the Beast” was not his personal choice for his final number.
“Kalahati,” he said, when asked if he is happy about the song that was assigned to him. “Siyempre, mas gusto ko ‘yung best. Mas maganda ‘yung ikaw mismo ang [nakakapili] para sa sarili mo ng kanta na para sa ‘yo.”
Pomoy earlier explained that he had sent a list of his preferred tracks to the producers of “AGT.” The final pick, he said, was approved by Simon Cowell, the production head and one of the judges of the competition.
Cowell, as seen in Pomoy’s performance video, was the lone judge who did not give him a standing ovation. The British starmaker also described the Filipino singer’s rendition, “predictable.”
When asked for his reaction to some supporters calling for “justice” for him, Pomoy said: “Wala na akong magagawa diyan. Huwag na lang sila ma-disappoint. At least lumaban ako. Bilang isang Pilipino, tinayo ko ‘yung bandila ng Pilipinas.”
Aside from the final performance night, which aired in the US on February 10, Pomoy has already taken part in the taping of the final results night, scheduled to air on February 17.
